The 1st National Korfball Championship of China was held in Tianjin from 21st to 23rd October. Three provinces were represented and in all, seven teams took part.
For many of the players and coaches, this was their first experience of real
korfball matches. The players were athletic and in good physical condition, so
made up for their lack of korfball skills and knowledge by taking a
basketballing approach to the game. To begin with, the games were very fast and
involved lots of physical contact.
There were 5 referees from Beijing University and Tianjin Technology University.
Lee, Roun-Ki (Steven), an IKF referee, transferred his knowledge and experience
to the other new referees and also guided them during the games. Warman Chang.
the Hong-Kong China Korfball Association president and experienced IKF jury
member, also gave the organisers a great deal of help on the jury table. Thanks
to the excellent organisation headed by Mr Guo, the leader of korfball
development in China, the championship matches went very smoothly.

Yunnan. The course was led by Fang-yi Hsieh (Bird), the AOKF secretary
general, and an experienced korfball promoter. The participants were also
encouraged to take a personal initiative in the promotion of korfball in their

As another positive outcome of this extensive korfball event is the plan to
promote korfball in different provinces, and for organizing a Chinese national
team for the 7th Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship in 2006. Thanks to positive
