Szentendre KK - Clube Corfebol de Oeiras Orel STU - Trojans Boeckenberg KC - Ceske Budejovice DOS’46 Engeldot - Adler Rauxel
Szentendre KK - Clube Corfebol de Oeiras
The first game of the day was between Szentendre and CC de Oeiras. It was a very tight affair with the teams trading goal for goal, but CC de Oeiras were just ahead at 6-5 after 15 minutes. The defence remained tight for the next 12 minutes when the game was stopped over a situation with the shot clock. The korf was hit as the buzzer sounded. All the players stopped except a CC de Oeiras attacker who picked up the loose ball, shot and scored. As all the players had stopped the jury was consulted, the goad didn’t count and the play re-started. Goals continued to trade and the half time finished 9-8 in favour of CC de Oeiras. The second half continued in the same style, both teams fighting hard and it was looking as if this game was going to be the first to have Golden Goal in this tournament. However, this was not the case as CC de Oeiras scored three quick goals with only one reply from Szentendre, resulting in the final score 19-17 in favour of CC de Oeiras.
Orel STU - Trojans
The second game between Orel STU and Trojans started nervously with Orel opening the scoring after 5 minutes with Trojans equalizing soon after. They continued to trade goals to remain level after 12 minutes. But 6 quick long distance goals in three minutes for Orel saw them take the lead 9-3. Trojans managed to get a goal back, only for them to concede a penalty to take the score to 10-4. Some further accurate shooting by Orel took them to the half time whistle 15-7 up. After two substitutions at half time, Trojans scored the next two goals hoping to close the gap making the score after 10 minutes into the second half 15-9. The goals continued, counting each other out each time until the final whistle with Orel STU finishing the game 23-18 winners.
Boeckenberg KC - Ceske Budejovice
The third game of the day was between Boeckenberg and Ceske Budejovice. Boeckenberg took a 5-1 lead after 5 minutes before Ceske Budejovice replied to make it 5-2 before Boeckenberg scored again. Ceske played well and held it to a 4 goal difference until the 5 minutes real play when Boeckenberg started to find the korf and went in 16-5 up at half time. The second half saw Boeckenberg slot home 3 more goals without reply in the first 10 minutes but the game was stopped for a short time whilst the referee had some treatment for an injury. He was able to continue and the goals flowed for both sides around the 15 minute mark to take the score to 26-8 in favour of Boeckenberg. Ceske Budejovice battled hard, but the quick fluid passing proved too much for them and Boeckenberg saw the match out, winning 32-10. Jesse De Bremaeker and Gert Degenaers both scored 7 goals each (including 1 and 4 penalties respectively) for the local team.
DOS’46 Engeldot - Adler Rauxel
The final game of the day between DOS’46 Engeldot and Adler Rauxel. The side from Germany opened the account leading the tournament favourites for a while. The following 10 minutes remained fairly level until DOS’46 Engeldot began to find the korf, taking the lead to 9-2 after the first quarter. Adler continued to concede goals and were trailing 14-2 at the 5 minutes real play time finally finishing the half 18-2 behind. DOS’46 Engeldot made their 4 substitutions and Adler 3 substitutions during the interval, but despite these changes, it took 5 minutes before either side could find a goal, and when DOS’46 Engeldot found the basket, they made it two in succession. It then was another 5 minutes before Adler had the chance to reply, and took it when they were awarded a penalty, taking the score to 20-2. By the start of the 5 minute real play time, DOS’46 Engeldot had stretched their lead to 26-3 and with 5 minutes to go, Adler had a consolation goal, but DOS’46 Engeldot ran in winners of the match 30-4. Captain Sabrina Bijvank for DOS’46 Engeldot scored 8 from open play and Casper Boom found the basket 5 times from open play before being substituted at half time.
